Poisson Disk Distribution for Sparse Sampling in MRI

It has been argued that a Poisson Disk distribution is superior to a random distribution for use as a sparse sampling pattern for MRI. The program pdiskdist.m is a Matlab program for calculation of a Poisson disk distribution on a Cartesian frame. The program includes a Matlab GUI interface for ease of use. The program includes the following features:

  • Variable point density patterns
  • Rectangular as well as square field of view
  • Different sampling patterns in the x and y directions
  • Fully sampled k-space center in rectangular or circular patterns
  • Notification of the acceleration (over a fully sampled k-space pattern)
  • Various plots for visualization of results

The program is loosely based on the discussion by Herman Tulleken in Dev.Mag. 21 in March 2008. The file structure should be preserved as the program looks for the Distributions folder to save calculated distributions. The menu for the calculations is generated by typing p_disk_dist at the Matlab command prompt.

The Matlab program will run on Windows, Linux and other systems with a Matlab license.
